Last year at the ISEPP conference, I was deeply moved as Dr. Karon presented a paper about how he worked with troubled people, and his humanity and perceptiveness were so profound, his humility in the face of complex situations so palpable that in the discussion afterward, I said that I wished that every trainee in every program for future therapists would be required to read that paper. Indeed, I deeply believe that the vast majority of what passes for "training" could productively be eliminated and replaced by this.
