1) Attendees will be able to distinguish and describe a nuanced view of the philosophy of scientific progress, with an emphasis on the historiographic work of Thomas Kuhn.

2) Attendees will be able to apply this understanding to the role of the biopsychosocial model in psychiatry and why it is so strongly favoured.

3) Attendees will acquire an understanding of the criminal law of fraud and critically assess whether this can ever apply to science, specifically psychiatry.

4) Attendees will learn the contradictory imperatives in the notions of detention and involuntary treatment of the mentally-disturbed, the international concept of human rights, and professional responsibilities, and be able to identify these contradictions in professional situations.

5) Attendees will discern various avenues of changing these problems and actively take steps to improvement.

Mys-Understanding In-Tangible Matters - 1.5 CEUs

1) Participants will be able to discern the history of shifting from the intangible to the tangible related to evidence and practices of care and its consequential aftermath.

2) Participants will develop the skill of interpreting and attending to the intangibles, particularly lived significance or lived meaning, for practices of care.

3) Participants will be able to identify and challenge familiar practices of reductionism in relation to the intangibles in practices of care, including their own practices of reducing the unpredictability, unknowing and uncertainty of allowing lived meaning to show itself, as it is, in its own way.


An Ex-Patient’s Perspective: How I Woke Up and How You Can Too - 1.5 CEUs

3) Participants will be able to better support and advocate for clients experiencing adverse effects, prescribed drug dependence and/or psychiatric drug withdrawal.

Feelings, Emotions, and Techniques of Psychotherapy: A Dialogue - Psychologist Meets Psychiatrist - 1.5 CEUs

1) Participants will develop a practical understanding of the role emotions play in the psychotherapy process.
2) Participants will be able to intelligently discuss the following questions:
Do humans have control over their emotions?
If so, how do they control emotions?
Is there such a thing as a wrong emotion?
3) Participants will learn practices they can use to increase their learning from emotions, and teach their patients to do the same.
4) Participants will develop a deeper understanding of, and thereby utilize in their practices, the role emotions play in enabling humans to become aware of and clarify their values and in understanding other people and their behavior.
